Who invented biomass?

It is impossible to name an inventor of biomass, because biomass has been used since humans first began to burn wood to create fire. Biomass refers to any material from the remains of previously living organisms, all plants and animals included.

In addition to wood, examples of biomass include fossils and grass clippings. In the context of modern use, biomass is carbon-based, and may be converted into fuel or energy. As of 2014, wood is the world's most-used biomass, but there are many fuels made from fossils, corn, algae, soy and other sources as well. The five primary categories of biomass are virgin wood, energy crops, agricultural residues, food waste and industrial waste.
