Moses is said to have parted the Red Sea. Accounts of the parting can be found in the Bible in the book of Exodus and in Surah 26: Al-Shu'ara' verses 60 to 67 of the Qur'an.
According to the Bible, the parting of the Red Sea occurred during the flight of the Israelites from their oppressors in Egypt; it is recorded in Exodus 14:21. The Biblical account states that Moses held out his staff and that the waves were then parted by God. The Egyptian army, which was in pursuit of the Israelites and followed them into the sea, was reported to have drowned when the sea closed in.
