Andrew Jackson helped to form the political party that is now known as the Democrats, which at his time, were referred to as the Democrat-Republican Party. He created the political party in support of his belief that political office should be rotated among applicants that deserved the opportunity.
Jackson served as the seventh president of the United States. He served in this role from 1829-1837. Early in his career, he rose to political success as the first man from the state of Tennessee that represented the state in the House of Representatives. Many people started calling him a national hero after the War of 1812, which helped him elevate his status among those beyond his own state.
