Pique cotton is a type of fabric that has been basket-weaved in a certain way as to display a fine ribbing texture. Also known as marcella fabric, pique cotton fabrics are produced in a variety of patterns including quilted, waffle, honeycomb and cord.
Pique fabric is typically used in the construction of clothing, such as polo shirts, blouses and pants, as well as in bedding and quilts. The thickness and quality of the fabric will be determined by the type of cotton used. For example, pique-style polo shirts made from pima cotton will be a much finer shirt with fewer imperfections as opposed to one made with combed cotton.
