What is a Wii?

A Wii is a video game console that is manufactured by Nintendo. The console was released in North America on November 19, 2006.

Wii relies on motion detection in three dimensions for gameplay. The console is played with a remote controller that is pointed at a sensor which controls the action on the television screen. In 2008, Nintendo offered a balance board that pairs with a fitness game that measures weight and position of the player.

The Wii was succeeded by the Wii U. The updated version of the Wii was released on November 18, 2012 in North America, Europe and Australia. It was released a month later in Japan.
