Does Xbox play Blu-ray discs?

Every Xbox plays some Blu-ray discs. However, some discs are encoded with their country of manufacture and do not play on all Xbox consoles. Each Xbox plays discs sold in the same region as the console.

Some Blu-ray manufacturers label discs with an "A," "B" or "C," depending on where it is being sold. Others do not encode the discs. Manufacturers create A discs for sale in North and South America and some Asian countries, and B discs are for sale in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. An encoded disc purchased in Europe does not play in an Xbox purchased in the United States.
