What are the advantages and disadvantages of Philips LED Christmas lights?

LED Christmas lights, such as the ones made by the Philips Company, use less electricity and are safer to use than traditional incandescent light strings because they do not get hot. These LED lights can, however, end up costing a consumer more to maintain in the long run.

Philips LED light strings cost around 10 times more than a string of incandescent Christmas light bulbs. LED lights should last longer because there is no fragile filament in the bulbs that can break, but they have a limited life and can go black when stored from one season to the next. LED light strings also do not do well during prolonged outdoor exposure because the leads in the individual sockets gather moisture and get rusty.
