What is a baptism candle?

A baptism candle is a tapered candle that is used during a baptism ceremony to symbolize the light of Christ as well as a source of light on the journey of spirituality. The candle, which is typically blessed on Easter, represents the triumph of good over evil in the church.
In some denominations, the candle also symbolizes the inner light within the person being baptised. It also serves as an example of how one should let the light shine outward for all to see. When the baptism ceremony is finished, the candle is typically brought home to serve as a reminder of the day. It can be used on other spiritual occasions as a remembrance.
