Homecoming at Cornell includes a football game, faculty presentations of their work, family-oriented activities for alumni and students, and a Cornell Glee Club concert. Other events include fireworks, an a capella concert, a 5K road race, tailgating before the big game, a debate sponsored by the Forensic Club and a rock concert.
The heart of Cornell's homecoming is the Big Red Game in which Cornell's football team takes on favorite rivals from the Ivy League. The game is preceded by a tailgating party for students, alumni, family and friends. Other Cornell teams, such as the hockey team, often play games that weekend. There is usually a panel session at which Cornell faculty members showcase their most recent research and publications. The school often hosts a free, interactive Family Fun Zone designed to appeal to all ages but emphasizing children's activities, such as face-painting and crafts. The Cornell Glee Club performs every year, and there are always an a capella concert and a rock concert. All attendees, along with the public, are invited to participate in the annual Homecoming 5k road race which benefits a local charity. The fireworks display includes a dance party with a DJ and a showcase featuring performances from the Cornell community.
