To install a washerless bathtub faucet, turn off the main water supply, install the putty plate and faucet, make the plumbing connections and turn the water back on. The most common type of washerless faucet is the cartridge-style faucet, but there are other types available. Consult the owner's manual for model-specific installation instructions.
In order to install a washerless bathtub faucet:
- Turn off the water
- Prep the putty plate
- Install the faucet
- Connect the pieces
- Clean the area
- Turn the water on
Before performing any plumbing work, turn off the water at the main water supply line.
Remove the putty plate and deck plate from the packaging and apply a generous amount of plumber's putty to the back of the plates. Push the plates in place, ensuring the drill holes line up correctly.
Insert the faucet mechanism through the deck plate and mount the faucet based on the manufacturer's instructions.
Connect all of the faucet components and tighten the nuts and bolts. Wrap plumber's tape around all threaded connections before screwing on the handles to prevent leaks at the connections. Avoid over-tightening the connections. Connect the supply lines.
During installation, excess putty may pool outside of the connections. Wipe away excess putty with a damp sponge before it dries.
Turn the water back on at the main valve and ensure the faucet does not leak.
