How do you repair a bathtub faucet?

To repair a bathtub faucet, turn off the water, take the faucet apart and replace broken or worn stem parts. Use plumber's grease to lubricate new parts before installing them.
To repair a leaky bathtub faucet, run through the following steps.
- Turn off the water
- Remove the faucet handle
- Remove the faucet stem
- Remove the valve, seat and washer
- Inspect the stem parts
- Replace the stem and handle
Before getting started, turn off the water supply leading the to faucet. Drain all water from the system by opening the valves.
To take apart a faucet, use a screwdriver to remove the screw in the handle. Carefully pry off the faucet handle. If it is stuck, use a lubrication spray to help loosen it.
Use a bath socket to turn the stem counterclockwise. If it is stuck, use lubricant to loosen it. Unscrew the stem from its socket and gently pull it out.
Unscrew the valve and remove it from its socket. Remove the seat and washer.
Inspect the stem and all of its parts. If any parts such as the seat, seat washer or bonnet washer are worn, broken or corroded, replace them. If the stem threads seem loose, wrap them with sealing tape.
Replace the faucet stem and handle. Turn the water back on.
