Are reviews of GAF roofing shingles generally positive?

Reviews for GAF roofing shingles generally fall between 3 1/2 and 5 stars. Customers dissatisfied with the shingles point to the fact that the shingles' lifetime warranty becomes prorated after 10 years and only covers the materials.

Another reason for poor reviews is that although the GAF Timberline shingles have an excellent wind rating of up to 130 miles per hour, the GAF simple three-tab Royal Sovereign and Marquis WeatherMax lines only have wind ratings of up to 60 miles per hour.

However, the GAF shingles sold by The Home Depot all have positive reviews, and none of the 22 shingle options have a rating below 4 stars, as of June 2015.
