Based in Beirut, Lebanon, Al-Manar is a satellite television connected with Hezbollah, an organization designated by the U.S. government as a terrorist group. Its programs range from international news to talk shows and music videos. One of its main topics of interest is the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
In Arabic, "Al-Manar" means "the beacon." Founded in 1991, the station's slogan is "A Flame That Will Not Be Extinguished." Due to its connection to Hezbollah, Al-Manar is banned in the United States and some other Western countries, including France, Spain and Canada. Despite its notoriety, the station and the programs it broadcasts remain popular in Lebanon.
