An Honor Flight is a free trip for U.S. military veterans to Washington, D.C., to see the memorials of the wars they fought in. The trips are usually funded by non-profit organizations, and the flights arrive at all three airports in the Washington, D.C. area.
The Honor Flight Network was founded by Jeff Miller and Earl Morse, and the first flight took place in 2005 and departed from Springfield, Ohio. At the end of 2012, the program had transported more than 98,500 veterans to Washington, D.C., to see their respective memorials, and the organization had offices in 41 different states.
