How hot does propane burn?

Propane has a maximum flame temperature of 3,595 degrees Fahrenheit. This value indicates the highest intensity of heat that propane gas generates when it is burning.

Propane is a derived product from crude oil and natural gas deposits. This liquefied petroleum gas is denoted by the chemical formula C₃H₈. Propane is characterized by a boiling point of -44 F, flash point of -156 degrees F and ignition temperature in air that ranges between 920 and 1020 degrees F.

For propane to burn, the combined propane and air mixture must contain at least 2.15 percent of propane and at most 9.6 percent of the volatile gas. Otherwise, values that fall outside of this range, prevent propane combustion from occurring.
