The core of the sun reaches temperatures of about 27 million degrees Fahrenheit. However, different layers of the sun have different temperatures. The upper layer of the interior of the sun is less than 3.5 million degrees.
Farther upward from the upper layer, or the convection zone, the photosphere is only about 10,000 degrees. The photosphere is where sunspots are found, and these are much cooler than the surrounding area. A sunspot can be as cool as 7,300 degrees.
The chromosphere of the sun is about 7,800 degrees, but the temperature of the corona can shoot up to 3.5 million degrees.
