What does a housekeeper do?

A housekeeper is responsible for cleaning a household, whether it is just one or two rooms or the entire house. Some common tasks a housekeeper may perform include vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, washing dishes, making beds and dusting.

Some housekeepers may choose to specialize in one area, such as cleaning the kitchen and bathroom, while others are more generalized. Once the areas of the home are assigned to a housekeeper, it is the individual's job to make sure the designated rooms or sections are clean, neat and tidy. In some cases, a housekeeper may perform duties outside of the home as well, such as picking children up after school or driving a family member to an appointment.
