Are humans apes?

Humans are part of the great ape family, Hominidae. Other great apes include bonobos, chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans. Humans are similar to apes in terms of anatomy, genome, ancestry and behavior.

Humans are sexually dimorphic and omnivorous, just as non-human great apes are. Additionally, humans share nearly all of the skeletomuscular system with great apes, with a few minor differences, such as arm length, skull size, pelvic shape and foot shape. The differences between human bodies and other great ape bodies can be attributed to humans' bipedal and terrestrial nature. Humans tend to walk upright, while all great apes use their arms to aid movement at least part of the time.
