Ibuprofen and acetaminophen are two different drugs and act in different ways. Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces the hormones that cause inflammation. Acetaminophen, also known as paracetamol, alters the way the brain perceives pain.
Both drugs are also used to reduce fever. Ibuprofin is the active ingredient in the brand names Advil, Motrin and Midol. Acetaminophen is found in Tylenol, Actamin and Feverall, Although both of these drugs are analgesics and used to treat similar conditions, such as arthritis, headaches and muscle pain, they each have different side effects and contraindications, so it is best to consult with a doctor to determine which one is best.
