Doctors recommend ibuprofen suppositories to treat pain and/or fever in babies between 3 months and 2 years of age who are vomiting or having trouble swallowing, according to Nurofen for Children. Ibuprofen suppositories are not for use in babies weighing less than 11 pounds.
The recommended dosage is up to three suppositories within a 24-hour period for babies between 3 and 9 months of age and up to four suppositories within a 24-hour period for babies between 9 months and 2 years of age, as stated by Nurofen for Children. Administration of suppository doses should occur every six to eight hours, with at least six hours between doses.
