Where is Iceland located?

Iceland is located between Greenland and Norway and is an island in the Atlantic Ocean. With a total area of 103,000 square kilometers, Iceland is the 18th-largest island in the world. An exclusive economic zone extends 200 nautical miles from the land boundaries of Iceland.

The country of Iceland houses some of the most active volcanoes in the world. Two volcanoes, Eyjafjallajökull and Grímsvötn, erupted in 2010 and 2011, respectively. As one of the youngest landmasses on Earth, Iceland grows at a rate of 5 centimeters per year due to the splitting of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet.
