What do impalas eat?

Impalas eat shoots, grasses, herbs, bushes and shrubs. During the wet season, they particularly like to feed on young grass shoots. During the dry season, they mostly eat herbs and shrubs.

Impalas range from the eastern and southern savanna regions of Africa, where they roam and graze for food in large herds. The herd's large population provides greater protection from predators such as lions. When an impala is threatened, it jumps very high and makes a barking noise to alert the rest of the herd, giving them time to flee. Impalas are known for their speed and ability to leap to a distance of 33 feet at a time to escape predators.
