The most important polymers located within the nucleus of a cell are proteins and DNA molecules. Proteins exist as enzymes and structural components of a cell, and DNA functions as the blueprint for cellular reproduction processes that transfer hereditary information from cell to cell.
At one point in time, proteins were mistakenly thought to carry out the cellular reproduction functions that scientists now know to be facilitated by DNA molecules within the cellular nucleus. These DNA molecules have a simple chemical structure, yet combine in a staggering sequential pattern that ultimately results in passing along a cell's hereditary information from generation to generation.
