Indirect contact occurs when a person comes in contact with a substance or animal rather than a human. It is one way that diseases are spread, notes Healthline.
Some diseases are spread through indirect contact. An insect or animal can be a host for a disease and pass it to a human through a bite or touch. When a person sneezes or coughs, a disease can also spread, reports Healthline. His or her saliva can fly through the air and land on an inanimate object. When the next person touches this object, the germs transfer to him or her. Frequent hand washing and wearing protection can prevent the spread of the illnesses.
