To install Windows 8 or 8.1 onto a computer, insert a Windows installation DVD or USB flash drive. You must back up your data, change the boot order, begin the installation process, enter the product key and format the disk drive.
- Back up important data
The partition undergoing installation loses data as it is formatted, so back up every important file before you proceed.
- Change the boot order
When the computer boots up, select the BIOS access key to enter the BIOS menu, then follow the instructions to change the boot order. Switch from using the hard drive as the primary boot device to the DVD or USB drive.
- Start the installation process
With the DVD or USB flash drive in place, start up the computer, and follow the prompts. Be sure to select the appropriate choices.
- Enter the product key
Locate the product key on the DVD case or in the purchase confirmation email. Enter the key into the box when prompted, then click I Accept the License Terms. Click Next.
- Format the partition
Select the drive you want to install Windows on, then choose to format the partition if necessary. Once the formatting is complete, click Next. Follow the prompts, and make the desired choices. Wait for Windows to finish installing.
