What instruments are used in rock and roll?

Though no one particular instrument is required for music to be rock and roll, the electric guitar is the iconic example of a rock instrument. Other common rock band instruments include drums, bass guitar, vocals and a keyboard or piano.

A wide range of instruments have been used in rock music, including entire orchestras. Two examples are Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" and Metallica's "S&M" album. Other instruments common in rock are synthesizers, acoustic guitars, and violins or electric violins. Hand clapping is used as well and is popular at live shows. Brass sections are also incorporated, as seen with the band Chicago.
