The first working prototype of the Internet was invented in 1965 by a scientist from M.I.T. The network was known as ARPAnet.
The creation of the Internet was in response to the Russian's launch of Sputnik. Americans began to become more invested in science and technology. The government formed the Advanced Research Projects Agency, or ARPA. The department was part of the Department of Defense and responsible for the Internet prototype.
The first message transmitted through ARPAnet was in 1969. It was a message transmission between computers at UCLA and Stanford. The first message ever sent was "LOGIN." The prototype crashed and only "LO" was received by the other computer.
