What is the junction between two neurons called?

The junction between two neurons is known as a synapse. Synapses can occur between two connected neurons or between a neuron and its target cells such as a muscle or gland cell.
Synapses are connections that allow neurons to communicate with each other or with other body parts. Synapses can transmit chemical and electrical signals. Chemical signals are triggered by specific neurotransmitters synthesized by the axon of the neuron. When an action potential is triggered, it releases the neurotransmitter into the synaptic cleft and is transmitted to another neuron or cell type. Electrical signals are sent across the nervous system and pass current and ATP through gap junctions of neurons.
