Who invented air conditioning?

According to Carrier United Technologies, Willis Carrier invented the modern air conditioning system in 1902. Carrier's invention gave rise to many industries within today's economy.
Willis Carrier was born on Nov. 26, 1876, in New York. At age 25, he graduated form Cornell University with a degree in engineering. Only a year after he graduated from college and started his first job at Buffalo Forge Company, he developed the first modern air conditioning system. Willis Carrier brought comfort to the world with his network of dealers, distributors and customers. The success of the air conditioner in Europe and Asia proved its worth on a large scale.
