Who invented deodorant?

An unknown inventor patented the first deodorant in 1888, called Mum. It was thick and waxy, hard to put on and difficult to remove. In 1903, Everdry hit the market in the United States. It was the first trademarked deodorant.
By the 1950s, the aerosol spray can came into play. Over 80 percent of deodorants on the market used this technology by the 1970s. However, governments in the US and the EU became increasingly concerned over the effects of harmful chemicals in cosmetics, so a ban was placed on ingredients in aerosols such as aluminum zirconium complexes. Today deodorant is a huge enterprise with thousands of brands on the market.
