Who invented optical fibers?

Optical fiber was invented by Dr. Donald Keck, Dr. Peter Schultz and Dr. Robert Maurer in 1970, according to Corning. It took four years of experimenting before the doctors were able to create low-loss optical fiber.

The optical fiber became a solution to steadily increasing consumer demand for bandwidth. In the 1960s, it was soon realized that the infrastructure of copper wires could not keep up with the pace of communications traffic. This is where optical fibers revolutionized telecommunication industries, allowing for lowered attenuation and almost limitless bandwidth.
