Frank Galatolie is responsible for the invention of Sour Patch Kids in the 1970s. The basis for this candy is the Mars Man candy.
The candy was initially shaped like martians and then later like children. The flavor has always been initially sour and then sweet and the original flavors include lemon, orange, lime and raspberry. There is now a berry flavor in the pack. Originally these candies were produced by the M & A Candy Company; Cadbury-Adams is the company responsible for Sour Patch Kids today. There are many different flavors and varieties of Sour Patch Kids throughout the world. Some countries have holiday-themed options, such as the Head and Bodies option in the U.K.
