Jacquard materials are recognized by their intricate woven patterns and their stretchy yet strong characteristics. These rich fabrics are used to add a luxurious look to a home's decor. The jacquard loom was invented in 1801 by Joseph Marie Jacquard.
One type of Jacquard fabric is damask, which is typically made of silk, linen or cotton and has an elaborate, iridescent pattern woven in. Damask fabric is typically woven with only one color and is very fine.
Brocade fabric is another type of Jacquard, which is heavier than damask. It is woven with many colors and is used in the design of upholstery finishes and clothing.
