As the 15th president of the United States, James Buchanan is featured on a $1 coin minted as part of the U.S. Mint's presidential coin series. The coin featuring Buchanan began production on Aug. 19, 2010, with 36.54 million coins minted in Denver and 36.82 million coins minted in Philadelphia.
The James Buchanan $1 presidential coin features a portrait of Buchanan on one side with his name above the bust. The other side is identical to those of other coins in the presidential series, with an engraving of the Statue of Liberty. The coin includes the text "In God We Trust," "15th President" and "1857-1861."
