The Jan Lokpal Bill was a bill drafted to seek the appointment of Jan Lokpal as an independent investigator in India. The focus of the appointment was for Lokpal to investigate cases of corruption. The bill is also known as the Citizen's Ombudsman Bill.
The Jan Lokpal Bill was first introduced in 1968; it was officially passed in 1969 by the Lok Sabha. Adv. Shanti Bhushan first introduced the bill. There have been multiple versions of the bill introduced since 1968, but none of these versions have been passed. As of January 2015, the most recent version of the Jan Lokpal Bill was passed in December 2013.
