John F. Kennedy International Airport has six terminals, while Washington Dulles International has one main terminal and two midfield concourses. JFK is located in New York City, approximately 15 miles from Manhattan. Dulles is located in Virginia, about 26 miles from Washington, D.C.
JFK has more terminals than Dulles, but its total land area is smaller. The airport is located on 4,930 acres, while Dulles covers more than 11,000 acres. JFK began operating in 1948, making it older than Dulles, which opened in 1962. There are more than 125 gates in JFK's terminals. Dulles has 139 airline gates, with the largest number located at Concourse A. Both airports serve domestic and international flights.
