What is job security?

Job security is the assurance a person receives that a current position is secure without the risk of unemployment. Job security ensures that an individual has continuous employment based on the contract of employment, labor legislation that disbars arbitrary termination or a collective bargaining agreement.

Many factors affect the possibility of job security, such as business conditions, the employee's personal capacity and the economy. In times of economic expansion, employees are more likely to have job security, especially in government jobs, health care, law enforcement and education. When a person does not have job security, a chance of becoming unemployed is always a possibility.
