There are some juices that have been proven to help in preventing or treating kidney disease. Patients suffering from chronic kidney stones are treated with potassium citrate, a compound found in a number of fruit juices such as lemonade and limeade, explains the National Kidney Foundation.
It is recommended that patients, especially those suffering from diabetes, avoid sugary juices because sugar can increase the risk of kidney stones, according to the National Kidney Foundation. The citrate found in lemonade is believed to prevent calcium from joining with other constituents, leading to kidney stones. Patients should look for sugar-free varieties or make their own lemonade using a sugar substitute.
