Kawasaki disease symptoms include fever, rash, red eyes and swelling accompanied by discoloration of the hands, feet, lips and tongue. The disease affects the blood vessels, and it occurs mainly in children between 1 and 2 years old and rarely in children over 8 years old, states WebMD.
Any child with the symptoms of Kawasaki disease requires early medical treatment to prevent later damage to the coronary arteries or heart. WebMD states that no one knows what causes the disease, and no tests exist to detect it. It is not contagious, and it occurs most often in late winter and early spring.
