To keep score of a bowling game, record one point for each pin knocked down per frame. A strike is scored as 10 points plus the next two balls the bowler throws. Those points are also added in the subsequent frames. A spare is 10 points plus the next throw.
- Record one point per pin
Record and add one point for each pin knocked down per frame. Add the two throws together and total the points.
- Record strikes accordingly
Record and add strikes accordingly. Each strike is worth 10 points plus the next two throws the bowler bowls. That total is added to the frame in which the strike is achieved. The next two throws are added, again, in the frame they are thrown.
- Record spares accordingly
Record and add spares accordingly. Each spare is worth 10 points plus the next throw. That total is added to the frame in which the spare is achieved. The next throw is also added in the frame it is thrown.
- Total all points
Total the points from all 10 frames by adding the total from each frame together. If you keep a running total from frame to frame, this step is not necessary.
- Add handicap
If applicable, after totally the points, add in any handicap points awarded.
