Why do kids like knock-knock jokes so much?

Kids like knock-knock jokes so much because they are short, witty, easy to understand and follow a "call and response" pattern that children can easily follow. With the use of puns, word misuse and even popular songs or movie quotes, kids find knock-knock jokes funny and at times, quite relatable.
Knock-knock jokes begin with "Knock, knock!" and the recipient replies with "Who's there?" The person delivering the joke states a certain name or phrase and the recipient repeats the name or phrase followed by "Who?" The punster then delivers the punchline. These jokes have been around since the 1930s. In fact, National Knock-Knock Jokes Day is annually observed in some countries every 31st of October.
