In medieval times, male peasant servants wore stockings and tunics, whilst the women wore long gowns and sleeveless tunics. The women also covered their hair with wimples.
The cloth would have been wool, spun into thread by the women of the family. Plants and roots were used to create dyes for their materials. There were rules regarding items of clothing not allowed, according to class. The females in the families of servants were not allowed to wear clothing above a certain value. They were also not to wear girdles garnished with silver. Cloaks were sheepskin, and boots were made of leather.
