What kind of gas is used in gas stoves?

Gas stoves use natural gas. The main gas supply of a home carries gas to the burner, where it is then mixed with air in a tube. More gas is released by turning the burner-control knob to a higher setting. Gas stoves use a pilot light or electronic ignition.
A pilot light uses more gas than an electronic ignition because the pilot light is constantly on. While gas and electric stoves are similar in initial purchase price, gas stoves are significantly more efficient to operate. A gas stove with an electronic ignition will cost less than half as much to operate than a comparable electric stove.
