What kind of light is best for orchids?

The best light for orchids is plentiful but indirect, for example, when sitting behind window blinds or curtains. An orchid receiving the right amount of light has bright green leaves.
Orchids can burn in direct sunlight but do not flower fully when the light is inadequate. Dark green leaves are another sign that the plant is not getting enough light, but red or yellow-green leaves means that plant gets too much. If leaves feel warmer than the air around them, it's time to move the plant somewhere with less direct light. People who order orchids through the mail should gradually increase exposure to light over several weeks.
