Frederick, Prince of Wales was the father to King George III of the United Kingdom. Both George III and Frederick, Prince of Wales were members of the Hanoverian monarchy that ended with Queen Victoria in 1901. His mother was Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, and he succeeded George II.
George III was born June 4, 1738. He became heir to the throne upon the death of Frederick and subsequently succeeded George II on the throne in 1760, reigning until 1820. George III is well-known for losing the American Revolutionary War. He died on Jan. 9, 1820. He was the second-longest reigning monarch of Britain as of 2015.
