"Knee scope" is another term for a knee arthroscope. An arthroscope is a tool used by a surgeon to see inside the knee and treat injury or disease in the joint, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. This type of surgery is called arthroscopic surgery.
With an arthroscope, a doctor can see the structures inside the knee. Conditions such as arthritis and cartilage tears are repaired using the arthroscope and small surgical instruments inserted through tiny incisions in the skin. An arthroscope can also detect ligament and tendon damage within the knee and aid the surgeon in repairing the damage, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.
