What is laser retinal repair?

Laser retinal repair or pneumatic retinopexy is a medical procedure that is used to repair tears or holes in the eye's retina, as stated by MedlinePlus. If a retina is in danger of detaching, a doctor will use a laser to close any holes and move the retina back into its proper position.
If a retina has become detached, a procedure to reattach it must be performed immediately. Once detached from the layer of tissues that surround it, the retina will not receive enough oxygen and will suffer cell death in the immediate area. In most cases, blindness can occur if the retina is not reattached to the eye right away.
