Is it legal for the public to access Indiana court case information?

Members of the public may access publicly available court information, according to the Indiana Supreme Court's Division of State Court Administration. An Indiana statute passed by the general assembly and further controlled by Indiana's Supreme Court Rule 9, titled Access to Court Records, requires this right.

Some information contained in court records is not available for public inspection, notes the statute passed by the general assembly. Some of the examples of information not publicly available are Social Security numbers of living persons, banking account numbers or personal identification numbers, any identifying information of witnesses to crimes, address information or the personal notes of court staff, or paternity records in certain years, details the statute.
