Leopard seals are the second largest seal species. The males weigh up to 1,300 pounds and grow to as long as 11 feet. Leopard seals live mainly in the Antarctic but have been found as far north as Australia and South Africa.

Leopard seals eat krill, fish and penguins and are the only species of seal known to prey on other seals. They can move quickly and hunt effectively on land and in the water. Females carry their young for 11 months and care for their pups until they are grown. Male leopard seals leave after mating. Killer whales and sharks are the leopard seals' only natural predators.
