Are leukemia survival rates high?

The average five-year survival rate for leukemia is 60.3 percent as of 2010, as reported by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Survival rates can vary widely according to age of patient, severity and duration of disease, and type of leukemia.

As of 2015, the average five-year survival rate for childhood leukemia is greater than 85 percent, as asserted by the American Cancer Society. Survival rates for leukemia have risen steadily over time and have quadrupled between 1960 and 2010, as indicated by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In addition, there are currently over 300,000 cases of active leukemia or of leukemia in remission in the United States as of 2015.
